// // HOW IT WORKS

Log a session, step by step.

The app captures what really matters: your performance, your gear, your range. And it verifies you were there. Here's how, and why.

01

Pick your discipline

25m pistol, 50m prone rifle, IPSC, clay shooting, .22 LR plinking, long-range precision — every French and international discipline is available. The app then adapts the input fields to what you picked: no hit factor on 10m air, no grouping on clays.

// AUTHENTICATION

The app checks you're at the range

When you start a new session, the app asks for location access — once, locally on your phone. It compares your coordinates against the database of 1,877 indexed ranges. If you're within a few hundred meters of a known range, the session earns an « Authenticated » badge. Otherwise it's marked declarative — you can still save it, but it won't count in your official stats.

This mechanism exists for one reason: to let a shooter prove they actually shot at a range, without having to publish where or when. No phantom scores from the couch. No polluted leaderboards. And nobody learns your location — the check happens on your device, your GPS coordinates are never stored.

03

You enter the data

Score, distance, caliber, position (standing, kneeling, prone), wind, grouping in mm. For IPSC: hit factor and time. For clays: number of broken targets. For long-range: variable distance and wind.

Pick the gun in two taps from your arsenal — which you can fill in or skip. The inventory is opt-in. If you've enabled it, caliber and gun type pre-fill automatically.

04

Add a photo (or don't)

Photo of the target, the grouping, the setup — entirely optional. The app detects EXIF metadata (location, date, camera model) and offers to strip it before upload. Default: EXIF stripped.

No need to show your gun. No need to post a photo at all.

05

You choose who can see

Four levels: public, friends (default), close friends, private (just you). Set a default in your preferences, and override per session.

Private sessions still feed your personal stats — you can progress without showing anything.

06

Save — and it's in your history

The session immediately enters your discipline stats (30-day sparkline, best, average, trend), updates your shooter status (8 tiers), and shows up in your friends' feed if you made it visible.

A GPS-authenticated session carries the orange « Authenticated » badge. For competitions and challenges, only authenticated sessions count toward rankings — otherwise everyone would post imaginary 100/100 scores.

// WHY GPS?

Without authentication, a leaderboard means nothing.

Every sports network hits the same problem: at the first friendly competition with a bit of stake, somebody inflates their score. You compare your progress against fictional numbers. The leaderboard empties out.

PewPewLife solves this with proximity verification. We don't try to validate the score itself — we're not a referee. But we prove you were physically at the range. That's enough to kill 95% of the fakes.

And critically, it works without publishing your position. The phone computes the distance between your coordinates and the local copy of the range list (downloaded at install). If you're close, the session is marked. If not, it isn't. No coordinate leaves your device. No heatmap. No "most active shooter in Lyon". No mapping of the shooter community.

It's the best compromise we found between "we want a credible leaderboard" and "we don't share shooter locations". If you have a better idea, write to us: contact@pew-pew-life.com.

// EDGE CASES

What if...

...I shoot at a private unlisted range?

You can submit the range from the app (it joins the database after moderation). Meanwhile, log the session in declarative mode — it still counts in your personal stats, just without the badge.

...there's no signal at the range?

The app does the GPS check offline. The session syncs when you get signal back, with authentication already locked in.

...I refuse to share location with the app?

No problem. You log declarative sessions, they go into your personal stats, but you don't get access to challenges and leaderboards that require authentication.

...I shoot abroad?

For now the database covers 1,877 ranges in France. Other countries coming. You can submit a foreign range from the app.
